Ringer Reef
Located only minutes from Boynton’s along the bike path is a small family run winery. Though small, it is professionally run and looks classy. This cellar door shows up many small and large wineries on how a cellar door should look and run. Real country charm and hospitality was in abundance, with the wife taking us to see where the wines were made.
The owners initially started specialising only in Merlot but perhaps have realised that the market is too small and since our first visit have added other wine varieties and styles including a Sauvignon Blanc, Sparkling, Chardonnay and a nice sticky. The wines had great depth of flavour and we were given the opportunity to try a barrel sample which was a real treat.
The cellar door is situated on the slopes facing Mount Buffalo again with a view to die for.
My tip for travellers or campers is to forget the grief of preparing breakfast on the last day of your holidays as Ringer Reef serves the best value brunch on the Monday of any long weekend for a very reasonable price. It does not get any better than sitting outside whiling the morning away, except perhaps with a glass of their excellent Sparkling Merlot. Keep an eye out for other events like BBQ’s at the vineyard.
