Summerfield Wines
I wasn’t sure what to expect from Summerfield, having not tried their wines or even heard of them prior to our visit. As a whole there is not much street appeal, and you may be tempted to bypass the bluestone cellar door, but don’t! If you also have not tried Summerfield wines and love a good red then push the door open, swagger in for a tasting and and you will be richly rewarded.
What I loved about this place, apart from the wines was that the cellar door manager and the winemaker knew the region very well and were happy to chat and recommend places to go and grab a bite to eat or other wineries worth visiting. They were great ambassadors for the region and a good tool to use for any visitor.
The wines were cracking, and although some were not to my taste, as a whole they were consistently very good across the board and any number of them could have made it to my private stash. Being threatened with divorce if I over indulged in wine purchases, the Reserve Cabernet and the Reserve Shiraz were too good not to take some home with me.
A display fridge has an excellent range of cheeses smoked meats and more, perfect for building your own little picnic hamper.
I love the fact that even though the winemaker had to be somewhere he couldn’t help himself and chatted with me about his wines even if that meant he was going to be late.
We loved this place and so will you!
