Ugly Duckling

Don’t let first impressions fool you. Though it looks like a house next to the side of the road, once you’re out of the car you’ll discover what this place is all about.

It may be one of the smallest cellar doors in the area, but boy it’s got a big heart. A quaint tasting area opens up onto a beautiful alfresco area shaded by porticos draped with grape vines, and if that was not enough to tempt you then the smell of their famous pies surely will. A local bake house cooks them, but Ugly Ducking supplies the wine that goes in the Chicken and Chardonnay Pie, and the Steak and Shiraz pie and they are magnificent!

The wines are just as good. The Red Duck, a delicious Cabernet, Shiraz and Merlot blend is one of the most drinkable wines I’ve had in ages. While you’re there, check out the crafts made locally from old wine barrels.
